Development of Latex Coated Jute Materials.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted during the year 1990 at Bangladesh Jute Research Institute Dhaka, Dyeing and Finishing Department to develop jute materials by using rubber latex. In order to improve the physical characteristics of jute products,fabrics of different constructions were coated with rubber latex in presence of reinforcing material and plasticizer using air dry method.Investigation were made in assessing fabric properties such as bursting strength, stiffness, durability in water etc. Rubber latex coated jute materials will be used extensively for the production of packing materials, geo-textile, tent, shoe-sole, horse pad etc. and these will increase the end uses of the jute fibers and fabrics.

Objectives:

i.To increase the useful life of jute materials.

ii. To save our environment pollution by using rubberlatex coated jute materials.

Methodology:

Crep rubber and reuse rubber were used for the preparation of latex. Rubber materials were dissolved in a suitable solvent and reinforcing materials as well as plasticizers were used used. The prepared latex was spread over or laminated over the jute fabrics, grite and jute/coir bland fabrics of different constructions.Finally the coated samples were dried in the air at normal temperature and pressure.
