Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was carried out in the Dyeing and Finishing Department of Bangladesh Jute Research Instituten 1990. Nursery sheet, a particular type of geotextile having specific longevity, demand by consumers has been developed in Bangladesh Jute Research Institute laboratory with the collaboration of BJMC. Subsequently this development technology was effectively transferred to Adamjee Jute Mills Ltd. which has inbuilt potential of producing nursery sheet in commercial scale. It is heard that hundred tones of above geotextile have already been exported by Adamjee Jute Mills Ltd.

Objectives:

i.To increase the diversified uses of jute

ii. To improve the indigenous cellulosic fiber materials.

Methodology:

The field trial experiment has been completed with the modified and improved geojute/geotgextiles of different types made with the technologies developed previously. The results of the trial experiments will be reported after completion of the analysis. Rubber/latex based geotextiles: Woven non-woven incapsulated and sandwich type of geotextiles were tried to prepare. Tensile strength was determined. Treatment Tensile strength lbs/sq. inch Original 125 25% dil. Of latex 160 50% dil. Of latex 140 Normal latex 175 20% dil. Of latex +20% clay 174 Normal latex +25% clay 22.42 50% dil. Of latex+25% clay 180 Normal latex +5% carbon+10%clay 21.0 Nursery sheet type of geotextiles: The development of nursery sheet with the collaboration of BJMC. Here plain woven light weight hessian jute fabrics were modified with chemicals so that biodegradability of the products is controlled up to the optimum requirement. Studies on the rodent proof geotextile: Jute, cotton, pretreated jute, polypropylene, along with various modified geojute were studied with regard to the rodent with and without bait(dry fish). The experiment were designed with 28 treated and untreated samples.

Achievement/Findings:

Geojute/geotgextiles with and without modification having specific properties are of high demand both inside and outside the country.Normal and jute/coir blended geojute/geotgextiles modified with various chemicals with specific properties have also showed similar demand. Exporting of hundred tons of Nursery sheet within a short period by Adamjee Jute Mills Ltd. reflects the possibility of huge demand of such products.
