Objective of this study was to evaluate double transplanting with traditional transplanting during T. Aman and Boro seasons. Eight treatments were evaluated in T. Aman season with 10, 20 & 30 days delay in transplanting with two photosensitive varieties, BR22 and BRRI dhan46. Ten treatments were evaluated with 15,30 & 45 days delay in transplanting with two varieties, early maturing variety BRRI dhan28 and long duration variety BRRI dhan29 during Boro season. Randomized complete block (RCB) design with three replications was used for the two experiments. Double transplanting under delayed planting situation produced higher grain yield (25.27 - 49.19% in Aman and 29.15 - 37.28% in Boro) than traditional transplanting done on the same day either with older or younger seedlings both in T. Aman and Boro season. But normal time traditional transplanting gave 2.76-9.17% higher yield than double transplanting done under delayed planting situation.

To evaluate double transplanting with traditional transplanting during T. Aman and Boro seasons.

Eight treatments were evaluated in T. Aman season with 10, 20 & 30 days delay in transplanting with two photosensitive varieties, BR22 and BRRI dhan46. Ten treatments were evaluated with 15,30 & 45 days delay in transplanting with two varieties, early maturing variety BRRI dhan28 and long duration variety BRRI dhan29 during Boro season. Randomized complete block (RCB) design with three replications was used for the two experiments. Fertilizer rate of 80-20-35-10 and 125-26-60-20 kg of N, P, K & S were used during T.Aman and Boro seasons, respectively. Expect N all other fertilizers were applied basally. Nitrogen was applied in three equal splits in both seasons. Supplemental irrigation was provided to T.Aman crop. Manual weeding was done twice and spacing of 20 x 15 cm was followed in both the seasons.

Significant variation in grain yield was observed both in T. Aman and Boro season. Highest yield of 5.16 t/ ha was obtained at normal transplanting on August 17 which was statistically identical to 10 & 20 day delayed transplanting of August 27 and September 07 and double transplanting of tillers of 30-day old crop of 1st transplanted crop of same seedling in T. Aman. Thirty day delayed transplanting of 30 day-old-seedlings September 17 gave the lowest yield of 3.09 t/ha which was equivalent to 30day delayed transplanting of 60 day-old-seedlings of September 17 and 30 day delayed transplanting 30 days old seedlings of BRRI dhan46 on the same day. Thirty day delayed transplanting of BR22 of September 17 gave 4.32 t/ha which was equivalent to the yield of double transplanting. Panicle number, tiller number, % sterile grain and plant height varied significantly among the treatments. In Boro season, 15-day delayed transplanting on January 30 with 50-days old seedlings gave the highest yield of 6.23 t/ha which was equivalent to normal transplanting on January 15 and double transplanting on February 15. Lowest yield of 3.97 t/ha was obtained at 45-day delayed transplanting of 35 day-old-seedling of BRRI dhan29 on March 02 which was equivalent to 45-day delayed transplanting of 80 day-old-seedling of BRRI dhan29 on March 02 and 35 day delayed transplanting of 35 day-old-seedling of BRRI dhan28 on February 15. Forty five day delayed transplanting of 35 day-old-seedling of BRRI dhan28 gave 5.34 t/ha which was equivalent to double transplanting T1 and T2. Variation among the treatments in panicle and tiller number and % sterile grain was insignificant while variation in straw yield, grain number and plant height was significant.
