On Station Yield Trial of Six Selected Mutants of Lentil

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Results showed significant variations were present in all the characters. The days to maturity ranged from 105 to 114 days for mutants while it was 114 days for mother variety of BARI masur-4. The mutant LM-79-5 matured earlier than both the mutants and the check varieties. The mutant, LM-79-7, LM-185-2, LM-95-3 and LM-156-1 produced higher number of pods per plant. The mutant LM-79-7 produced higher seed weight (2.45g) among the mutants and the check variety. In Ishurdi, mutants LM-79-7 produced significantly the highest seed yield 1990 kg ha^-1 followed by LM-185-2 and LM-95-3. In Magura, mutant LM-79-5 produced higher seed yield among the mutants and the check variety.

Objectives:

Development of varieties with bolder seed, earliness, higher seed yield with improved nutritional quality and resistance/tolerance to rust, root rot and blight

Methodology:

Six mutants along with two check varieties, Binamasur-2 and Barimasur-4 were put into on station yield trial at Ishurdi and Magura. The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Unit plot was 5 m x 3 m. Distances between rows and plants were 30 cm and 5-6 cm, respectively. Plant height, number of primary branches/plant, days to maturity, number of pods/plant, 100-seed weight and seed yield (kg ha^-1) were recorded from randomly selected 10 plants of each plot.

Achievement/Findings:

The mutant LM-79-5 produced higher in average seed yield and number of pods/plant then check variety. The selected mutant lines will be grown in the next year to assess their yield potential at different locations of Bangladesh.
