Advanced Yield Trial of Some Promising Mutants of Lentil

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Results showed significant variations in all the characters. It was observed that plant height ranged from 35 cm to 40 cm. The days to maturity ranged from 101 to 110 days for mutants while it was 110 days for mother variety of BARI masur-4. The mutant LM-156-1 and LM-185-2 matured earlier than the check variety of Bari masur-4. The mutant LM-79-5, LM-156-1 and LM-185-2 produced higher number of pods per plant. Ishurdi, mutants LM-79-5 produced significantly the highest seed yield 1810 kg/ha followed by LM-156-1 and LM-185-2 among the mutants and the check variety. In Magura, the mutant LM-79-5 produced higher seed yield among the mutants and check variety and the lowest yield produce at Jamalpur. But, in average the mutants LM-79-5 produced significantly the highest seed yield 1611 kg/ha among the mutants and the check variety. Out of 7 mutants, three showed promising in respect of number of pods/plant and seed yield.

Objectives:

Development of varieties with bolder seed, earliness, higher seed yield with improved nutritional quality and resistance/tolerance to rust, root rot and blight

Methodology:

Seven mutants along with the check variety, BARI masur-4 were put into an advanced yield trial at Ishurdi, Magura and Jamalpur. The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Unit plot was 4 m x 3 m. Distances between rows and plants were 30 cm and 5-6 cm, respectively. Plant height, number of primary branches/plant, days to maturity, number of pods/plant and seed yield (kg/ha) were recorded from randomly selected 10 plants in each plot.
