Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The research work was conducted at Weaving Department of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute in 1996 to develop novotex blended blankets.Jute yarn of BWB fibre was taken. The blended yarns of 80% jute and 20% rayon were spun in normal spinning process were taken to produce blankets. Chemically modification, woollenisation, blending, dyeing, finishing treatments were done. The processed yarn was woven in double layer base fabric on piccanol loom in the Weaving Department. The woven fabric was passed through a raising machine to give in typical fleecy and soft feel. The all jute blanket was stronger in weft direction than that of rayon blended blanket. The abrasion resistance of rayon blended blanket was almost double than that of all jute blanket. About 50 pics. of blankets were sent to sale center for consumers.

Objectives:

To produced novotex blended blankets for quality improvement.

Methodology:

To produce novotex blanket 2 ply of 258(7.5 lbs/spy). Jute yarn of BWB fibre was taken. The blended yarns of 80% jute and 20% rayon were spun in normal spinning process were taken to produce blankets. Chemically modification, woollenisation, blending, dyeing, finishing treatments were done. The processed yarn was woven in double layer base fabric on piccanol loom in the Weaving Department. The woven fabric was passed through a raising machine to give in typical fleecy and soft feel. Then the raised fabric was cut and sides were sewn on over head sewing machine according to the required size that is (96X58) cm. To study the physical properties of all jute and rayon blended blanket, tests were done and the thermal conductivity was measured. Test were carried out at standard atmosphere (65 plus minus 2) % relative humidity and temperature of 20 degree centigrade.

Achievement/Findings:

Generally blanket are made from wool, cotton, and synthetic fibres. Novotex all jute and blended blankets can replace these blankets. The rayon blended blanket was found softer and comfortable than that of the all jute blanket. The thermal conductivity of rayon blended blanket was superior to 100% jute blanket. The all jute blanket was stronger in weft direction than that of rayon blended blanket. The abrasion resistance of rayon blended blanket was almost double than that of all jute blanket. It was observed that there are more naps on rayon blended blanket than that of 100% jute blanket.
