Optimize the Insertion of Twists for Low Count Normal Jute Yarns.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The research work was conducted at Spinning Department of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute in 1991-92 to fix up suitable balanced twist for non-conventional jute yarns. The year BWB jute fibre was taken for this work. Keeping draft for the required count i.e. 103.5 tex (3 lbs/spy) yarn constant and varying twist by inserting seven different twist levels in the range of 5.47 TPI to 8.46 TPI, seven different yarns were spun through conventional jute processing system. From the twist, tensile and spinning performance study of the yarns it may be inferred that the point of optimum twist level for 103.5 tex (3 lbs/spy) nominal count yarn lies some where within 6 o 7 TPI.

Objectives:

To fix up suitable balanced twists for non-conventional jute yarns of lower counts.

Methodology:

This year the experiment was conducted with BWB grade jute fiber. The fiber was softened by the application of 25% normal emulsion. The softened fiber was piled for 48 hours for maturation. Then the matured fiber was processed through all the stages of conventional jute processing and finally yarns of 103.5 tex (3.0 lbs/spy) nominal count were spun on the Spingard spinning frame. For this experiment twist was varied for different yarns of same count i.e. 103.5 tex, keeping required draft constant. Thus, seven different counts of twist were inserted for processing seven different yarns. The twist used were in the range of 5.47 TPI to 8.46 TPI for103.5 tex yarn. The yarns were then tested as per standard methods of testing.

Achievement/Findings:

A comparative study among the yarns of 103.5 tex having different twist levels indicate that levels of 6.07 TPI to 6.49 TPI have improved quality ratio than those of the other twist levels used. The main function of twist insertion into yarn is to provide strength in it for subsequent uses. In case of 103.5 tex (3 lbs/spy) yarns quality ratio have significantly improved at twist levels of 6.07 TPI to 6.49 TPI than the other levels of twist. So, it may be inferred that the optimum twist level seems to lie in a point within the range 6 to 7 TPI. Thus, the exact point of optimum twist level may be found out by concentrating this study in the said range in next experiments.
