Pilot Plant and Processing Division, Bangladesh Jute Research Institute, Dhaka-1207.

The experiment was conducted during the period of 1997 at Bangladesh Jute Research Institute under Pilot Plant and Processing Division. In respect of economic return this method is amied at the increased productive and lower cost that are essential to improve the comparative position of textile in the world market. CBC was well scoured with soda ash and bleached with hydrogen per oxide by conventional method. Ten varieties of procion M-brand dyes (reactive) and a few varieties of cross linking agents were selected for simultaneous dyeing and finishing of above bleached CBC by padding method. The padding Recipe was as follows: 10g/l Procion M dye, 90g/l Cross linking  agent (Fixapret CPN), 15g/l Magnesium chloride(Catalyst),5g/l Citric acid, 15-205g/l Softening agent (siligen E).The cross linking agents like Fixapret-CPN containing two or more reactive groups are capable of forming stable chemical bonds with both the cellulose and dye in presence of acid catalyst under the influence of heat with in a few minutes. This bond is most probably a covalent linkage and the dye does not remove on boiling if high fixation occurs. The cross-linking technique improved crease resistance to a great extent (53-62%). In this regard Fixapret-CPN is an effective cross-linking agent which obtained satisfactory colour strength and increased fabric resiliency. The procian range of dyes makes available a new system of application with which covalent-dye-fibre linkage can be created simply.

Economic techniques for  concurrent dyeing and resin finishing technology of jute goods.

CBC was well scoured with soda ash and bleached with hydrogen per oxide by conventional method. Ten varieties of procion M-brand dyes (reactive) and a few varieties of cross linking agents were selected for simultaneous dyeing and finishing of above bleached CBC by padding method. The padding Recipe was as follows:

             10g/l            Procion M dye

90g/l            Cross linking agent (Fixapret CPN)

             15g/l            Magnesium chloride (Catalyst)

               5g/l            Citric acid

            15-205g/l      Softening   agent (siligen E) .

The required amount of dyes and other chemicals were dissolved separately in cold water, mixed together and was made to the required volume. Bleached CBC was padded through the above formulations in a two bowl padding mangle to yield a wet pickup of 100%. The fabrics were then dried, baked at 1500Cfor 2 minutes. Then soaped for 15 minutes at 750C in order to remove the unfixed dyes. They were rinsed and dried. Shortly the continuous sequence of the process was s follows:

Padding-----Dreying-----Curing------Soaping------Rinsing

Preliminary trials Fixapret CPN (DMDHEU), Kaurit W, Kaurit S were used as cross linking agent and they were used from lower concentrations viz 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100g/l. Satisfactory dye fixation was achieved with only Fixapret CPN at 90g/l.

Colour Fastness to washing, rubbing, light and loss of tensile strength were determined by general methods. Creased recovery angle was measured .

It was found that the fastness to washing, staining and rubbing of the dyed CBC were very good. Most of the dyes other than procian Scarlet MX 3G and Turquiose mxg achieved good fastness properties of high standard from 4-5.The cross linking agents like Fixapret-CPN containing two or more reactive groups are capable of forming stable chemical bonds with both the cellulose and dye in presence of acid catalyst under the influence of heat with in a few minutes. This bond is most probably a covalent linkage and the dye does not remove on boiling if high fixation occurs. The cross-linking technique improved crease resistance to a great extent (53-62%). In this regard Fixapret-CPN is an effective cross-linking agent which obtained satisfactory color strength and increased fabric resiliency. But there was appreciable loss in tensile strength (47.74%) in presence of DMDHEU using pad-dry bake method. The tensile strength loss caused by cellulose embrittlement was bought about by cross linking as well as cellulose degradation by the catalyst under acid medium. This is due to the fact that when acid reacts with cellulose there is a reduction in chain-length caused by hydrolysis of 1,4 oxygen bridges between glucose unit.
