Evaluation for Morpho-agronomic Attributes for Disease and Pest Tolerance of Selected Tossa Jute (c. Olitorius) Germplasm

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at Central Station, Dhaka to evaluate for morpho-agronomic attributes, disease and pest tolerance of twenty eight accessions of tossa jute (C. olitorius) along with check varieties O-4 and O-9897 were sown at on 17 April, 2000. The experiment was laid out in RCBD design with three replications. Row to row distance was 30 and plant to plant distance was 5-6 cm in rows. Pigmentation data, disease and pest infestation data were collected at 60 days after sowing and sowing to harvest respectively. The accessions were characterized for their morph-agronomic attributes, disease and pest status as per Corchorus descriptor. Plants were harvested at 120 days after sowing and post harvest data were collected. Based on the major yield contributing characters, disease and pest infestation status accessions 4152, 4228, 4566, 4177 and 4572 performed better than check varieties.

Objectives:

To characterize the tossa jute germ plasm as per Corchorus Descriptor for their morpho-agronomic attributes, diseases and pest infestation status.

Methodology:

The experiment was laid out in RCBD design with three replications. Row to row distance was 30 and plant to plant distance was 5-6 cm in rows. The accessions were sown on , 2000 with check varieties O-4 and O-9897. Other standard cultural and intercultural practices were followed. Pigmentation data were collected at 60 days after sowing. Disease and pest infestation data were collected from sowing to before harvesting period. Plants were harvested at 120 days after sowing and post harvest data were collected.
