Objective of this study was to increase the awareness about soil management among farmers of Submergence and Cold area (Rangpur region AEZ 3). Eight field experiments in T. Aman and six in Boro season were conducted in the farmers' fields of four districts named Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Rangpur and Nilfamari under Submergence and Cold area i.e. Rangpur region (AEZ 3). The soils of the experimental fields were sandy loam in texture with slightly acidic reaction. The major crop cycle of that area was Potato/Wheat-Broush-T. Aman. From the results it was observed that rice straw applied with IPNS based chemical fertilizer performed sound to get a maximum yield and it might be saved a good amount of chemical fertilizer including full dose of K.

To increase the awareness about soil management among farmers of Submergence and Cold area (Rangpur region AEZ 3).

Eight field experiments in T. Aman and six in Boro season were conducted in the farmers' fields of four districts named Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Rangpur and Nilfamari under Submergence and Cold area i.e. Rangpur region (AEZ 3). The soils of the experimental fields were sandy loam in texture with slightly acidic reaction. The major crop cycle of that area was Potato/Wheat-Broush-T. Aman. T1: BRRI recommended dose (AEZ basis), T2: Rice Straw (4.5 t/ha, sun dry basis)+ IPNS basis chemical fertilizer, T3: Farmers' Practice (FP). The plot size of the experimental plot was 8m x 6m. The sources of nutrients N, P, K, S and Zn were Urea, TSP, MoP, Gypsum and Zinc sulphate, respectively. In treatment T2 rice straw was used as a source of K @ 4.5 t/ha. All TSP, MoP, gypsum, zinc sulphate and rice straw were applied at final land preparation. Urea was applied in three equal splits: 1st (1/3rd) at final land preparation as basal, 2nd at maximum tillering stage and 3rd before panicle initiation stage. BRRI dhan 49 was used as test variety in T. Aman season. In Boro season, in Rangpur and Kurigram BRRI dhan29 and in Nilfamari BRRI dhan55 were used as test variety.

Treatment T1 (BRRI dose) and T2 (Rice straw + IPNS) produced the higher grain and straw yield over Farmers' Practice (FP). The highest grain yield of 3.69 t/ha (mean of 8 observations) was obtained with the treatment T2 (RS + IPNS), which was 19.81% higher than T3 (Farmers' Practice) while, T1 (BRRI dose) produced 3.33 t/ha grain yield (i.e. 8.12 % higher than T3 (Farmers' Practice). These indicate that rice straw (organic material) applied with IPNS based chemical fertilizer performed best to get a maximum yield and it might save a good amount of chemical fertilizer including fully dose of K. Like T. Aman, in Boro season treatment T1 (BRRI dose) and T2 (Rice straw+ IPNS) produced the higher grain and straw yield over the farmers' practice. The highest grain yield of 7.98 t/ha (mean of 6 observations) was obtained with the treatment T1 (BRRI dose), which was 4.59% higher than T3 (Farmers' Practice) while T2 (RS+IPNS) produced 7.84 t/ha grain yield (i.e. 2.75 % higher than T3 (Farmers' Practice).
