Recovering Ability of BRRI Released T. Aus Varieties Against Tungro Disease in 2010-11

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The highest no of seedling was infected in BR8 and BRRI dhan26 by tungro virus followed by BRRI dhan48, BRRI dhan43 and BRRI dhan42. All the eight varieties showed higher plant height in control plot than inoculated one. The result showed that Purbachi, BR3, BR8, BRRI dhan26, BRRI dhan27 and BRRI dhan48 showed higher tiller/hill in control plot than inoculated plot. Incase of panicle/hill all the varieties showed higher no of panicle in control plot than inoculated one except BRRI dhan27. The yield also higher in control plot than inoculated one for most of the varieties but BRRI dhan42 and BRRI dhan43. The above results concluded that BRRI dhan42 and BRRI dhan43 have the highest recovering ability against tungro. BRRI dhan26 have the lowest recovering ability.

Objectives:

To determine the recovering ability of BRRI released T. Aus varieties against tungro disease.

Methodology:

BRRI released T. Aus varieties such as: BR8, BR26, BRRI dhan27, BRRI dhan42, BRRI dhan43 and BRRI dhan48 along with one susceptible check Purbachi and one resistant check BR3 were tested against RTV disease under glasshouse condition. Seeds of each variety were sown in three 14''×10'' pots differently. Seven-day-old seedlings of two pot of each variety were inoculated by viruliferous GLH for 24 hours. Both healthy and inoculated seedlings were than transplanted in the field. Management practices were followed by BRRI recommendation. Data were collected on Seedling infection, plant height, number of tiller/hill, Panicle/hill, Panicle Length and Yield/hill.
