Assessment of Fibre Properties in Batch Composition in Relation to Spinning and Measurement of Fibre Width by Microscopic Method and Comparison Made with Linear-density by Gravimetric Method.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The samples were collected from the Adamjee jute Mills Ltd.Adamjee Nagar, Dhaka and collected from their running batch composition. The samples were collected only from two groups, (a) Hessian Warp (b) Sacking Weft. The linear density of Tossa-B (cut) was significantly higher than the linear density of lower grades. The quality ratio of Hessian Warp was 101.74% and Sacking Weft was 70.64% in case of linear density. The mean width in microns of Hessian warp batch 46.33 and Sacking Weft was 45.11 microns.

Objectives:

To measure the spinning quality of raw jute and relate this to the strength characteristics of different count of yarn.

Methodology:

Method of collection of samples: - There was no scope of selection of bales. The samples were collected from the Adamjee jute Mills Ltd.Adamjee Nagar, Dhaka. The samples were collected from their running batch composition. The samples were collected only from two groups. (a) Hessian Warp (b) Sacking Weft (a) Hessian Warp was consisted as follows: i) Tossa 'B' 10% ii) White C cut 20% iii) White X cut 20% iv) White X uncut 50% And Sacking Weft comprised with; i) S.M.R 20% ii) H/J, Rope 20% iii) Cuttings 60% From group a (i.e. Hessian Warp) separate samples for each type of jute for our research work. But from the group b it was not possible to collect sample for the whole running batch as such cuttings and H/J, Rope which were mixed with long S.M.R. The sample of Tossa-B, white-C (cut), white-x (cut), white –x (uncut) and S.M.R were taken separately. Each type of jute was divided into several parts. Among them some portion was used for fineness (i.e. Linear-density, width of fibre and measurement of fibre diameter by Air Flow method) some was used for bundle strength; some quantity was used for Bursting energy. Determination of Linear-density: For working 10,20,20,50,20 reeds of jute were determined randomly and samples were taken from middle portion of each jute reed and it was cut at about 30 cm length. The sample was conditioned as in the standard atmosphere of R.H. (65±2)% and temperature of (20±2)ºC. Measurement of fibres width: In case of fibre width measurement, the same fibres as were used to measure the linear-density. The width of each fibre was determined at 7 different places with the help of visopan (Projection Microscope) and mean fibre width was calculated.

Achievement/Findings:

It was observed that in most of the cases the linear density of fibres were directly proportional to their width. The linear density of Tossa-B (cut) was significantly higher than the linear density of lower grades. The quality ratio of Hessian Warp was 101.74% and Sacking Weft was 70.64% in case of linear density. The mean width in microns of Hessian warp batch 46.33 and Sacking Weft was 45.11 microns. The results may be helpful for processing the grading of jute and selecting the batch composition.
