Production of Different New Jute Products and Methods of Tests for Furnishing Fabrics and Performance Standards Required.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

In the studies five samples of furnishing fabrics such as Novotex fabrics blue diamond (cotton x jute), Novotex fabrics green diamond ( jute x jute), Novotex fabrics yellow herring-bone( jute x jute), Novotex fabrics white bleached plain ( jute x jute), and Novotex fabrics red plain ( jute x jute) had been taken for investigation. The wave constructions were studied first and then tested one by one. From the result it would be concluded from higher breaking extensions and lower flexural rigidity values of fabrics, Novotex fabrics blue diamond, Novotex fabrics green diamond and Novotex fabrics yellow herring-bone that these fabrics may be used as window and door curtains.

Objectives:

To test for furnishing fabrics and require performance standards and trial production and technical services.

Methodology:

Furnishing Fabrics were manufactured from yarns made of jute, cotton, wool or other types of textile fibers. In the studies five samples of furnishing fabrics such as Novotex fabrics blue diamond ( cotton x jute), Novotex fabrics green diamond ( jute x jute), Novotex fabrics yellow herring-bone( jute x jute), Novotex fabrics white bleached plain ( jute x jute), and Novotex fabrics red plain ( jute x jute) had been taken for investigation. The wave constructions were studied first and then tested one by one. Breaking Tenacity and breaking elongation of yarns taken from the fabrics under investigation have been determined by Universal Testing Machine INSTRON, Capacity 100 kg. Yarns per inch both warpway and weftway were determined for each test samples. Besides these other properties such as Bursting strength, Stiffness of fabrics and Abrasion Resistance were determined.

Achievement/Findings:

Mean values of ends/inch, pick/inch, weight in oz/yd2, breaking load, breaking extension, bursting strength, bending length, flexural rigidity of each of the samples of furnishing fabrics are observed. These furnishing fabrics were expected to be less stiff in weft way and therefore lower values of bending length and flexural rigidity in weft way were expected. Breaking load in weft way in Novotex fabrics yellow herring-bone was only 36.2 lbs. From the result it would be concluded from higher breaking extensions and lower flexural rigidity values of fabrics, Novotex fabrics blue diamond, Novotex fabrics green diamond and Novotex fabrics yellow herring-bone that these fabrics may be used as window and door curtains. But high values of flexural rigidity Novotex fabrics red plain may give some restriction in using this fabrics as curtains as it is very stiff and may show poor draping properties.
