Establish Standard Requirements of Jute Carpet with Respect to Different Properties in Relation to Performance and Comfort and Pile Height and Density, Resiliency Etc.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The standard requirements of Jute carpet with respect to different properties in relation to performance and comfort was done by Compression and thickness Recovery method, and Dynamic Loading method. It was observed that there was a repaid fall in thickness of the carpet corresponding to a particular load for each carpet. The very load for a carpet of 14 mm pile height was 3lbf/inch2 and relative point for the carpet of 9-10 mm pile height was 6 lbf/inch2. The percentage of thickness recovery and percentage of compression recovery follow the same order for particular carpet. But both of them were inversely relative to their pile height.

Objectives:

To improve the market potential of jute properties to enhance its various uses.

Methodology:

: The sample was conditioned as in the standard atmosphere of R.H. (65±2)% and temperature of (20±2)ºC. From the large piece of carpet, the test specimens of required size is 3″×3″ or (7.5 cm× 7.5 cm) were cut out for the purpose of experiment. The carpet specimen was placed with its pile upper more on the base plate, so that no part of the pressure foot lie within 0.75″ (2 cm) of the edge of the specimen or with any 3″ or (7.5 cm) of any previous measurement. The apparatus required to study the thickness loss compression etc. was ESSDIEL THICKNESS GUAGE. The study of Resiliency of carpet was done by dynamic loading method. This method was to observe the change of thickness to different number of hammering by prescribed set of impact assembly of the machine. Several pieces of such 5″×5″ size carpet were cut out of the original large carpet sample. Experiment was done following the B.S. standard British method BS 4098:1967.
