Assessment of Fiber Quality in Relation to Spinning and Determination of Fiber Bundle Strength and Quality Ratio.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Random samples of different quality collected and examined the relationships between fiber structure and spinning quality. The experiment should be carried out with all the grades of jute and also on samples of different before drawing any conclusive remark. The bundle strength of BWA was 7.28 lbs/mg, BWB was 9.85 lbs/mg, BWC was 11.50 lbs/mg, BWD was 9.35 lbs/mg, BWE was 10.94 lbs/mg and BWspl was 11.41 lbs/mg the highest value. The highest quality ratio was 130.76 % for BWspl.

Objectives:

To predict the strength of jute yarn from the physical properties of the fibers from which the yarn is spun and to relate to commercial grading.

Methodology:

Samples were collected from only that bale which was opened by our experimental mill. Each bale contain 80 head of jute called morahs. Each morrah weighs about 5 kg or less. The bale was divided into 30-35 parts by taking group of 2-3 morahs at a time. The sample was conditioned as in the standard atmosphere of R.H. (65±2)% and temperature of (20±2)ºC. Bundle strength was determined by pressley fiber bundle strength tester using Zero gauge length. All protruding ends of fibers were sheared of oven with the outer face of clamps. Tension was applied to separate the clamps and thereby to break the fiber. The resulting strength was calculated from the breaking load and the linear density of the specimen. However in case of BWE and BWD reading were taken only at the mid portion of the reeds of samples.
