Effect of Silicon to Control Sheath Blight Disease of Rice in Aus

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted in the Plant Pathology Glass house at BRRI, Gazipur. The experiment was designed to observe the effect of different sources of silicon on minimizing rice sheath blight disease. As a sources of silicon, the treatment combinations were rice husk @ 2.5 t/ha (T₁), rice husk ash@ 2.0 t/ha (T₂), rice husk ash @ 2.5 t/ha (T₃), Na₂SiO₃ @ 500 kg/ha (T₄), disease control (T₅) and healthy control (T₆). Rice variety BR11 was used as a test variety where seven days old pure culture of virulent Rhizoctonia spp. was inoculated at maximum tillering stage of the plant. Data on RLH, disease incidence, diseae severity and yield (g/hill) were recorded. Results indicated that rice husk @ 2.5 t/ha (T₁) and rice husk ash@ 2.0 t/ha (T₂) were effective to control sheath blight disease of rice. RLH and % tiller infection (TI) were lowest and yield was higher in these two treatments. SPAD value of healthy leaf was significantly higher than diseased leaf in all treatments.
