Screening of Fungi Toxicants on Eradication of Seed Borne Inoculum of F. Moniliforme.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An investigation was carried out at plant pathology laboratory of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) to to find out suitable chemicals for bakanae disease control during 2009-10. Here, 11 fungicides from different chemical families were tested against Fusarium moniliforme to determine the efficacy of the chemicals. Naturally infected rice seed were collected from farmers' field in Habiganj district. Initial inoculum level was estimated following blotter method of ISTA. Infected seeds were soaked in different fungicides suspension with different rates for over night. Control treatment provided using sterile water only without treating fungicides. Among the tested fungicides, 100% per cent inhibition of F. moniliforme was recorded with Carzeb, Sunphanate, Nativo and Bavistin in lower rates (2.5g/kg seeds) of fungicides followed by Greenzeb. In Greenzeb, there was no significant difference among the rate of applications. Other fungicides also significantly inhibited the infection of F. moniliforme compare with the control but these were incomparable with the above mentioned fungicides. Carzeb, Sunphanate, Nativo and Bavistin respectively.

Objectives:

Methodology:

A total of 11 fungicides from different chemical families were tested against Fusarium moniliforme to determine the efficacy of the chemicals. Naturally infected rice seed were collected from farmers' field in Habiganj district. Initial inoculum level was estimated following blotter method of ISTA. Three rates of application viz. 2.5, 3 and 3.5 gm commercial formulation/kg seeds were used for each fungicide. Infected seeds were soaked in different fungicides suspension with different rates for over night. Control treatment provided using sterile water only without treating fungicides. Freshly treated seeds were plated in replicates of 25 seeds per 9 cm diameter plastic petri dish lined with three layers of water soaked Whatman No.1 blotter papers. The dishes were incubated at 30±1^oC for 7 days in alternating cycles of 12 hours darkness and near Ultra Violate (UV) light. After 7 days all plates were observed by stereomicroscope to find out the infection level of Fusarium moniliforme associated with the seeds.
