Chemical Control of Leaf Scald Disease of Rice, T. Aman 2009

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Leaf scald disease of rice is one of the major disease. To control the disease effectively an experiment was conducted in farmers field during T. aman 2009. The experimental design was RCBD. A total of five fungicides were used as spray. Lowest disease severity (0.14-0.26) was found in the plots where Nafsal, Theovit, Microthiol and Solvit sprayed. The highest incidence was in Theovit sprayed plot. The best control of leaf scald was obtained by Nafsal treatment where 84% reduction of the disease severity was found. Further study is to be needed because of the disease severity in the control plot was very low.

Objectives:

To find out the effective chemicals against leaf scald disease

Methodology:

This study was conducted during T Aman season 2009 with natural incidence of the disease. Thirty-five day old seedlings of BR22 were transplanted at 15 x 20 cm spacing in 3 x 3m unit plot following RCB design with three replications. TSP and MP fertilizer were applied during final land preparation and Urea was applied as top dress in 3 equal splits. Five fungicides namely Theovit, Dewvit, Microthiol special disperse, Solvit, Wonderful and Nafsal were tested against the disease. All the fungicides were sprayed to the plant at twice. First spray was done just immediate after initiation of the disease infection. Second was done at 10 days after 1st spray. Disease sverity was recorded at 30 days after the chemicals spray.
