Screening of Segregating Population Against Bacterial Blight (bb) During Aus and T. Aman Seasons 2008.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An investigation was carried out at plant pathology laboratory of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) to identify resistant genotypes against bacterial blight disease. In Aus season, F2 populations of two crosses and six crosses in T. Aman season were screened against bacterial blight. When the Plants were reached at booting to flowering stage in Aus and maximum tillering to panicle imergence stage in T. Aman seasons was inoculated by most virulent BB isolate BXo9 following standard leaf clipping method. Appropriate inoculum density were maintained to ensure optimum dress pressure. Fifteen days after inoculation data on disease leshion height was measured following Standard Evaluation System. Generally, top most leafs were inoculated throught leaf clipping method. In Aus season, F2 populations of two crosses (BR7928; IR50X Soloi and BR7929; BR26X Soloi) and six crosses in T. Aman season were screened against bacterial blight. Plants were inoculated at booting to flowering stage in Aus and maximum tillering to panicle imergence stage in T. Aman seasons with the isolate of BXo9. One hundred seventy three plants in Aus and 36 in T. Aman were selected that showed resistant reaction against BB and also have other acceptable traits.

In Aus season, F2 populations of two crosses (BR7928; IR50X Soloi and BR7929; BR26X Soloi) and six crosses in T. Aman season were screened against bacterial blight. Plants were grown at BRR farm following proper agronomic management practices. When the Plants were reached at booting to flowering stage in Aus and maximum tillering to panicle emergence stage in T. Aman seasons was inoculated by most virulent BB isolate BXo9 following standard leaf clipping method. Appropriate inoculum density were maintained to ensure optimum dress pressure. Fifteen days after inoculation data on disease leshion height was measured following Standard Evaluation System (SES, IRRI-1996). Generally, top most leafs were inoculated thought leaf clipping method.
