Field Efficacy of Some New Insecticides Against Legume Pod Borer (maruca Vitrata F.) on Country Bean

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Seven new insecticides were tested against legume pod borer infesting country bean at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Jessore during kharif 2010. Among the insecticides Voliam Flexi 300 SC showed lower flower (2.10%) and pod (3.41%) infestation and also the highest pod yield (29.70 t/ha).The insecticides viz., Banlep 5WG, Protect 5WG and Panacea 5SG also offered satisfactory results in view of reduced pod borer attack and increased yield.

Objectives:

To find out the effective insecticide against legume pod borer infesting county bean

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at RARS, Jessore during Kharif 2010. Seven new insecticides such as Banlep 5WG, Protect 5WG, Voliam Flexi 300SC, Mahasakto 5SG, Panacea 5SG, Pictor 2.2EC and Dana plus 5SG were evaluated against legume pod borer of country bean. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. Country bean seeds were sown on 09 July, 2010 in 24 plots each measuring 3 m x 1.5 m. The normal intercultural operations were done. The spraying was done by knapsack sprayer. The whole plant was thoroughly covered by spray emulsion. Untreated plots were sprayed with plain water. Number of healthy and infested flowers were counted and recorded at 7 days intervals from 15 inflorescence selected randomly per plot before spray to calculate percentage of flower infestation. The mature pods were harvested from each treatment before spray. The number of healthy and infested pods were recorded and weighed to calculate percentage of infested pods at each harvest.
