Survey on the Incidence of Diseases and Pests of Jute and Allied Fibre Crops.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The survey on disease incidences were done in the experimental plots of Manikganj, Kishoregonj, Chandina, Faridpur and Rangpur Station of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute during the year 2011-2012 in jute, kenaf and mesta field . The total disease incidence ranged from 1.11- 32.00%. The highest disease incidence (32.%) was recorded in BJC- 2142 recorded at Kishoregonj regional station followed by 30.30% recorded in BJC-7370 recorded at Rangpur. The lowest total disease incidence (1.11%) was recorded at O-72 recorded at Faridpur regional station. The highest leaf mosaic (20.00%) was recorded in BJC-2142 in experimental plot at Kishoregonj followed by leaf mosaic (17.54%) in HC-2 at Rangpur. The highest anthracnose (18.18 %) was recorded in BJC-7370 at Rangpur followed by 8.93 % recorded BJC-7370 at Chnadina. The highest stem rot (12.00 %) was recorded in BJC-2142 at Kishoregonj followed by 9.60% stem rot in HS-24 at Kisghoregonj. Black band was not prominent at the stations surveyed and ranged only from 1.00-1.39 %. Root knot (7.50 %) was recorded in CVL-1 at JAES.

Objectives:

1. To survey on different disease incidences of jute and allied fiber crops grow in different region.

2. To forecast about the disease incidence for the management of disease.

Methodology:

The survey on disease incidences were conducted in the experimental plots of JAES, Manikganj, Kishoregonj, Chandina, Faridpur and Rangpur, to record the incidence of diseases in jute, kenaf and mesta. The data on disease were collected through a schedule format (A & B) developed for the purpose keeping the objectives in view. Direct observation from the field and laboratory study were done in the Pathology Laboratory by blotter method following ISTA (1976) rule. No plant protection measures were taken till harvest to facilitate the natural disease occurrence infestations. Disease reactions were evaluated on the basis of percentage of affected plants and were recorded from the experimental plots of each replication. Survey on different disease incidences of jute and allied fiber crops is essential to forecast about of the disease incidence.

Achievement/Findings:

Survey on different disease incidences of jute and allied fiber crops from different region were done. Various fungal pathogen were identified and percentage of disease incidence were measured. For the management of disease incidences of jute and allied fiber crops disease forecasting is essential to the jute growers for the management of disease which will be helpful for the production of good quality seed and higher fiber yield and to control seed borne fungal disease transmission.
