Effect of New Acaricides on Jute Yellow Mite Under Field Condition.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was carried out at JAES, Manikgang & BJRI H/Q during the year 2012. Six new acaricides were evaluated against yellow mite in the field of JAES and Central station. The variety O-9897 was grown in the field. After 60 days of sowing when more than 60% infestation of yellow mite was built-up naturally in the field candidate acaricides were sprayed along with a standard (Kumulus 80WP). Control plots were treated with fresh water. Percent infestation was recorded before spray and after 3rd, 7th and 10th days of spray. Percent reduction of plant infestation was calculated at 10th days after application of acaricides in both the test places. Gurvit 80WDG (sulfur), Netsul 80WDG(sulfur), Delcosul 80WDG (sulfur), G-Vit 80WDG (sulfur), Apex 80WDG (sulfur) and Dhaksulf 80DF (sulfur) were found effective for controlling jute yellow mite giving more than 89.51% reduction of infestation in JAES, Manikganj and Central station, Dhaka at 10th day after spray. At Manikganj, highest reduction of infestation (96.28 %) was found in Gurvit 80WDG that was statistically similar with all acaricides @ their respective doses. At Central station, Dhaka highest reduction of infestation (93.03 %) was found in Delcosul 80WDG.

Objectives:

To evaluate efficacy of candidate acaricides supplied by different pesticide companies against jute yellow mite under field condition.

Methodology:

The experiment was carried out at Jute Agriculture Experiment Station, Manikgang and Central Station of BJRI during the year 2012. Six new acaricides were evaluated against yellow mite in the field of JAES and Central station. O-9897 was grown in 2.1 m?2m plot following RCBD (Randomized Complete Block Design) with three replications. No plant protection measures will be taken to facilitate the natural build up of yellow mite population. However, normal agronomical practices for jute cultivation were followed.After 60 days of sowing when more than 60% infestation of yellow mite was built-up naturally in the field candidate acaricides were sprayed along with a standard (Kumulus 80WP). Control plots were treated with fresh water. Percent infestation was recorded before spray and after 3rd, 7th and 10th days of spray. Percent reduction of plant infestation was calculated at 10th days after application of acaricides in both the test places. Leaf samples were collected before spray and 24, 48 and 72 hours after spray for counting mite population under binocular microscope. Percent reduction of mite infestation were recorded at 7 and 10 days after spray.
