Development of Dyes and Chemicals for Jute and Allied Fibre and Products.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

This study was conducted at BJRI under technology Division to develop of dyes and chemicals for jute and allied fibers during the year of 1997. Pretreated jute fabric was prepared for dyeing with i) Thiodioxamide ii) Sodium acetate iii) Acetic acid iv) Ethylamine v)Wetting agent and vi) Nickel chloride. Above mentioned pretreated fabric was padded with a nickel chloride solution of known strength and then dried at room temperature. Nickel treated fabric was then dyed in jigger with 1 g/l of above prepared dye solution containing necessary auxiliaries for one and half hours. Semi-bulk manucturing technology for dye preparation was determined. Present dye-hours are sufficient for the application of this dye. So, we can say that techno-economic dye study for these photo stable dyes are highly needed.

Objectives:

To prepare methods of photo stable dye for wall cover in pilot scale production.

Methodology:

(I) Preparation of fabric: Hessian Jute Fabrics were pretreated with standard pretreatment process.

(II) Dye preparation: Dye (Blue shade) was prepared with: i) Thiodioxamide ii) Sodium acetate iii) Acetic acid iv) Ethylamine v) Wetting agent vi) Nickel chloride

(III) Application: Above mentioned pretreated fabric was padded with a nickel chloride solution of known strength and then dried at room temperature. Nickel treated fabric was then dyed in jigger with 1 g/l of above prepared dye solution containing necessary auxiliaries for one and half hours. The dyed fabrics was then washed thoroughly with cold and hot water respectively. After washing dyed fabric was dried at room temperature.

Above mentioned dyed fabric then tested for different fastness properties and results were evaluated.

Achievement/Findings:

Along with the previous green and yellow dyes, this year blue photo stable dye was prepared in laboratory scale. And semi-pilot-scale application technology for this dye on hessian fabric was determined including various fastness properties of this dyed fabric as shown in results. Results clearly indicate its photo-stabilizing effect on jute fabric. Present dye-hours are sufficient for the application of this dye. So, we can say that techno-economic dye study for these photo stable dyes are highly needed.
