Intercropping Dhancha in Jute Crops as Green Manure and Its Subsquent Effect on T. Aman Rice.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

To observe the adaptability of jute with dhaincha for increasing crop productivity and to maintain soil fertility, an experiment was conducted in Kishregonj Regional Station of BJRI during, April to August, 2005. The experimental design was RCBD with 4 replications. The results from the experiment revealed that yield and yield contributing characters of jute were affected significantly by intercropping jute with dhaincha except base diameter. The highest fibre (2.85 t/ha) and stick yield (6.11 t/ha) were obtained from sole jute (T₁) followed by T₄. The lowest yield was obtained from T₂. After harvesting of jute crop T. Aman rice was grown following recommended cultivation procedure. The results also showed that the highest grain yield of T. aman rice (2.54 t/ha) was recorded in T₁ where T. aman rice was grown after sole jute.

Objectives:

To observe the adaptability of jute with Dhaincha (Sesbania aculeata) as intercropping system for maximizing crop productivity and maintaining soil fertility.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at the Jute Research Regional Station, Kislhoregonj during April to August, 2005. The experimental design was RCBD with 4 replicatgions having plot size 4.m x 5.m. Five treatments i.e. sole jute, Dhaincha sowing in between two jute rows in the same day, Dhaincha sowing in between two jute rows after 7 days of jute crop sowing, Dhaincha sowing in between two jute rows after 15 days of jute crop sowing and sole Dhaincha were used for this experiment. Dhaincha was incorporated into the soil at 45 to 50 days after sowing as green manure.
