Effect of Different Measures for Controlling Nematode Population in Soil.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted in the field of JAES, Manikganj following RCBD with three replications to use of amendment such as application of water hyacinth, old jute seed powder, poultry litter, submerged soil with water. The highest gall formation was recorded in water hyacinth (173.3) and fire ( 168.7) treatment and lowest gall formation was recorded in poultry litter ( 71.00) followed by Furadan 5G.

Objectives:

1.Use of amendment such as application of water hyacinth, old jute seed powder, poultry litter, submerged soil with water

2.Fired the residual crops may have positive effect in controlling nematode population in the soil.

Methodology:

Treatments were i) Old jute seed dust (30gm/plot) ii) Water hyacinth ( 5 kg/plot) iii) Poulltry litter ( 5 kg/plot) iv) Furadan 5G ( 24gm/plot) v) Sub merged soil with water for 1 month vi) Fired soil with residual plant parts and vii) Control. The experiment was conducted following RCBD design with 3 replications. Each plot size was 3 x 3 m2 and plot to plot distance was 1m. To minimize the movement of nematodes, water supply was maintained through the channel that was prepared inside the different plots. All treatments were applied before sowing. Variety HC-95 of Kenaf was used as test materials. Seeds of kenaf was sown after 15 days of soil treatments. The seeds were sown on 23th April 2007. Stand data was recorded after 40 days of sowing. Five plants from each line were up rooted carefully and washed with water without disturbing the roots at age of 90 days of the plants.
