A comparative study has been made between Novotex and Novocel Home furnishing Fabrics and the conventional home Furnishing ones. The results obtained revealed that Novotex and Novocel Home furnishing Fabrics heavier than and comparable with conventional ones in respect of strength, warpway stiffness and drape co-efficient percentage but compared to conventional furnishing fabrics, Novotex furnishing fabrics are stiffer weftway. It could be concluded that the price of the Novotex and Novocel Home furnishing Fabrics was much lower than that of conventional furnishing fabrics ones.

To reduce the manufacturing cost of jute products by optimizing processing parameters and machine factors.

Conventional Home Furnishing fabrics are generally manufactured from cotton, wool, and man-made fibres. But BJRI (technology) is going to use jute in combination with cotton/m-m fibres for producing home furnishing fabrics have been developed to be used as home furnishing ones viz. curtains and draperies. Novotex Home Furnishing Fabrics used in this study were manufactured at BJRI (Tech), but conventional Home Furnishing fabrics were purchased from local market. A. Novotex Fabric, Mixed weave (stripe), width-1.143 m, Jute/cotton: 60/40, B. Novocel Fabric, Diamond weave (green color), width-0.914 m, 100% jute, C. Novotex Fabric, Twill weave (mixed color, Chocolate-green), width-0.813 m, Jute/cotton: 60/40, D. Novotex Fabric, Twill weave (golden color, cotton yellow, jute orange), width-0.914 m, Jute/cotton: 60/40, E. Novotex Fabric, Herringbone weave (green color) width-1.291 m jute/cotton, 60/40. Conventional Home Furniture Fabrics. A. Jacket Fabrics, width-1.07 m Cotton/Rayon; 60/40. B. Union Fabrics, DW plain, width-1.13 m Cotton/polyster; 70/30. C. Cotton stripe Fabric, DW plain, Width 1.07 m, 100% cotton. D. Jacket Fabrics, zigzag weave width-1.12 m Cotton/Rayon; 70/30. Different textile properties of the above fabrics were determined as per as standard methods of test. Color fastness to washing was determined as per I.S.O. test No.3 composition of test solution was lux soap 5 grans, soda ash 2 grams per litter.

Specification of the Home furnishing Fabrics was not all the same in constructions, compositions and yard counts. In this investigation, a comparative study has been made between Novotex Home furnishing Fabrics and the conventional home Furnishing ones. But these fabrics were selected on the basis of our objective to know how much plus point or minus points are gained in BJRI products compared to those conventional ones and finally standardize the Novotex and Novocel Home furnishing Fabrics. From the data it was observed that the Novotex and Novocel Home furnishing Fabrics had weight range from 192.19 to 341.41 grams per square metre whereas the conventional fabrics had 135.15 to 177.35 grams per square metre. Breaking load per 5 cm width of Novotex and Novocel Home furnishing Fabrics were 35.60 to 120.80 Killograms width warpway and from33.50 to 82.70 Killograms width weftway. From the measurement it was showed the Novotex and Novocel Home furnishing Fabrics had got bending length from 1.38 to 1.96 cms warpway and from 2.36 to 4.53 cms weft way, whereas the conventional fabrics had got bending length from 1.44 to 2.01 cms warpway and from 1.48 to 2.65 cms weft way. These figures indicated that Novotex and Novocel Home furnishing Fabrics were sufficiently soft in warpway but too stiff in weftway. From the results of flexural rigidity and stiffness, Novotex and Novocel Home furnishing Fabrics were much stiffer than the conventional fabrics. The drape co-efficient percentage of conventional fabrics were from 65.57 to 89.88 and that for Novotex and Novocel Home furnishing Fabrics were 63.22 to 83.46 which indicated that all these fabrics were of similar draping properties.
