Studies on the Fiber Characteristics of the New Variety Jute.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

In this project the new variety O-9897, and fibers of the jute plants harvested at the age of 90, 100, 110, and 120 days were collected and determined their various physical characteristics such as Busting energy, Bundle strength, Fineness, Tex, Breaking load and Tenacity of the fiber. Thus it were concluded that the new variety of jute at the age of 90 and 100 days were better in respect of physical characteristics.

Objectives:

To evaluation textile qualities of the new varieties of jute and allied fibres developed by BJRI (Agriculture) with a view to standardizing them.

Methodology:

In this investigation chosen the new variety O-9897. Fibers of the jute plants harvested at the age of 90, 100, 110, and 120 days were collected. These samples for investigation were tested in the standard atmosphere of R.H. (65±2)% and temperature of (20±2)ºC for determining their various physical characteristics such as Busting energy, Bundle strength, Fineness, Tex, Breaking load and Tenacity of the fiber.

Achievement/Findings:

From the data the characteristics/ properties of the new variety O-9897 were determined. It was observed that the fiber of the variety O-9897 had got comparatively lower tex value and lower textile modulus which were favorable for good spinning. By looking into the results of Bundle strength, Breaking Tenacity and Fineness it can be said that the 90 and 100 days aged jute were very good because it their tenacity value. Thus it could be concluded that the new variety of jute at the age of 90 and 100 days were better in respect of physical characteristics.
