Investigation on the Pest Reactions on Different Promising Lines of Jute

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted in the field of JAES, Manikganj, Rangpur and faridpur to determination the pest reaction of different promising lines and to identify the sources of resistance/tolerance against different insect and mite pests.In Olitorius lines, highest percent of apion infestation (96-10%) and No. of bores/plant (4.13-5.73) recorded at Faridpur station and lowest infestation (53-76%) and No. of bores/plant (0.87-1.25) recorded at JAES (Tahle-1). None of the listed olitorius lines performed better than check 0-9897. In case of C. capsularis higher percent of apion infestation (83-96%) and No. of bores/plant (2.03-3.07) recorded at Rangpur. The tested line BJC-370 preformed better than the check CVL-1.

Objectives:

: 1.To determination the pest,s reaction of different promising lines.

2.To identify sources of resistance/tolerance against different insect and mite pests

Methodology:

Promising lines of Corchorus spp.along with recommended varieties was grown in the field at JAES, Manikganj, Rangpur and Faridpur regional stations(3mx3m),with 3 replications, RCBD Design. Agronomical practices and fertilizer doses was followed as per recommendation.No plant protection measures was taken till harvest to facilitate the natural pest population. Percentage of infestation, rating score and Percent Damage Index (PDI) of yellow mite infested plants was recorded twice in a month throughout the crop period. Apion infestation (top shoot attack) was recorded at seedling stage and bores/plant was recorded at the time of harvest and accordingly amount of Damage(AD) was calculated.a) Method of rating score for yellow mite attack. The intensity of damage by yellow mite was to be scored 0-5 rating scale.
