Effect of Ata Seed and Garlic Extract on Jute Yellow Mite

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted in the field of Central station, Dhaka following CRD with four replications. Among the plant materials tested, garlic extract at the doses of 1:10, 1:20 and 1:30 gave about 80, 82 and 86% mortality, respectively after 72 hours of spray. All the doses of garlic gave better performance over standard green neem leaf extract (1:20). The performance of Ata seed extract at the ration of 1:50 was not found satisfactory giving only 58% mortality after 72 hours, which is less than green neem leaf extract (1:20). Garlic extract (1:20) will be evaluated in the next year under field condition.

Objectives:

1. To determination the pest,s reaction of different promising lines.

2.To identify sources of resistance/tolerance against different insect and mite pests.

Methodology:

The variety O-9897 was grown in earthen pots at Greenhouse premises of Central station, Dhaka followinng CRD with four replications. The plants were artifically inoculated with yellow mite. After sufficient natural infestation, different doses of garlic paste and ata seed extract (1:50) along with green neem leaf extract (1:20) were sprayed on yellow mite infested potted plants. the control plants were remaining untreated. Each treatment was replicated 3 times. Percent mortality of mite infestation was calculated after 24, 48 and 72 hours after the application of plant materials.
