Find Out Germplasms of Corchorus Spp. for Tolerance/resistance to Yellow Mite

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

All the 50 accessions showed high intensity of infestation and none was selected for further trail. In regional trail of 3 selected promising lines, higher percent of mite infestation observed at Chandina than JAES. The lowest percent of infestation (1.35%) and rating score “1” observed only in accession No. CGR-1617 in JAES (Manikgonj). The accession 4706 performed best having rating score “1” in both test places

Objectives:

1.To identify sources of resistant/tolerant jute germplasms against yellow mite

2.To help the Breeders in evolving pest resistant/tolerant varieties.

3.To development of resistant/tolerant varieties will help in reducing the cost of production since it does not involve any extra cost for pest control.

Methodology:

Fifty accessions of olitorius were screened against yellow mite on potted plants in the green house premises along with O-9897 as check to select tolerant/resistant accessions. Percentage and intensity of infestation ( rating) were taken weekly after 5 days of inoculation till to death of top shoot. Previously selected 3 promising mite tolerant accessions of Capsularis were sown in 2 x 2m plots in the field of JAES (Manikganj) and Chandina following RCBD with three replications. Rating and percentage of infestation was taken during the peak period of infestation.
