Green neem leaf extract at the ratio of 1:20 was found effective and about 50% reduction of infestation after 7 days of treatment was recorded. On average there was an increase yield of 250-260kg fibre/ha over the control with the use of green neem leaf extract and hand picking, respectively.

Non-chemical control approaches  were tested  at different regional station of BJRI to popularizedit among the jute growers.

Jute plants O-9897 were grown in randomized plots (2x2m) in the fields of different regional stations after  built up  of natural population of yellow mite and jute hairy caterpillar following treatments were followed :

  1. Green neem leaf extract (1:20)  were sprayed on mite infested plot at an interval of 3 weeks at the initiation of infestation
  2. Early instar ( gregarious) jute hairy caterpillar were collected by hand and killed under feet pressure
  3. Control: No control measures were taken
