Studies on the Pest Infestation of Promising Lines in Different Locations

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Percent apion infestation was recorded at the time of harvest from Capsularis and Olitorius lines. Percent infestation and intensity of yellow mite were recorded from Capsularis and Olitorius during the period of infestation. None of lines of Capsularis and Olitorius were found completely free from apion. Severe apion infestation observed at Rangpur regional station and poor infestation at Pakhimara sub-station. Lowest percent (0.40%) of apion infestation recorded in Olitorius line O-795 at Kishoreganj followed by SDLT-1 (0.42%) at Kishoreganj. In Capsularis, minimum infestation was recorded in BJC-2104 (0.94%) at Pakhimara. No olitorius lines survived at Pakhimara due to water loggine. Yellow mite infestation was not built up at JAES, Chandina and Monirampur station. Severe yellow mite infestation observed at Rangpur regional station and very low at Pakhimara sub-station. Among the Capsularis line BJC-2104 had the lowest percent of mite infestation. In case of Olitorius, O-795 performed better than others.

Objectives:

1.To determine the pest reaction of different promising lines.

2.To identify sources of resistance/tolerance against different insect and mite pests.

Methodology:

Three promising C.capsularis and 4 C. olitorius lines along with CVL-1 and O-9897 as check were grown in randomized plots ( 2X 2m) at different regional and sub-stations of BJRI. Percent apion infestation and intensity of yellow mite were recorded at the time of harvest from Capsularis and Olitorius lines. Percent infestation and intensity of yellow mite were recorded from Capsularis and Olitorius during the period of infestation.
