At Central station, all the 8 kenaf line were infested by spiral borer and only the accession 2732 was found free from mealy bug. At monirampur no infestation of spiral borer and mealy bug observed. At Faridpur regional station, only accession 2732 was found completely free from spiral borer and mealy bug. At Central station among the 14 mesta lines 7 lines (Line No. 2055, 2508, 2659, 2800, 4400, 4904, 5020) were found free from spiral borer and 12 accession (Acc. No. 2055, 2107, 2508, 2659, 2800, 4371, 4382, 4384, 4399, 4400, 4904, 5020) were found free mealy bug. At Monirampur station all mesta line were found completely free spiral borer and mealy bug. At fardipur regional station, all the accession were infested by spiral borer and no mealy bug had built up on any of the accession.

1.To identify sources of resistant/tolerant Kenaf and Mesta germplasms against Spiral borer and

2. To help the Breeders in evolving pest resistant/tolerant varieties

The experiment was conducted in colleboration with Gene Bank and Kenaf & Mesta Department to find out the tolerant/resistant line. A total 14 lines of mesta with HS-24 ascheck and 8 lines of Kenaf with HC-95 as check were screened against mealy bug and spiral borer at Central station, Monirampur and Faridpur. Seeds of each lines were sown in 2m long. The target pests adopted no plant protection measures with a view  to facilitate maximum infestation tp the crop. Data was collected regularly during the period of infestation
