Effect of New Insecticide Against Jute Hairy Caterpiller Under Field Condition

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Experiments were conducted at Central station, Dhaka and JAES, Manikganj in Randomized plot (3X3m) with 3 replications. To evaluate the effectiveness against Jute hairy caterpillar.The insecticide Dhanulux 2.5 EC @ 1.5ml/1, Imidaclor 10 WP 1 ml/1, Quinalphos 25% @ 1.5 ml/1, Linothrin 10EC @ 0.5ml/1, MBcyper 10 EC @ 1.7 ml/1, and Karathrin 2.5 EC @ 0.5 ml /1 found effective against jute hairy caterpiller in both the test places giving about more than 94.11% morality at Central Station, Dhaka and more than 96% mortality at JAES, Manikganj after 72 hrs. of treatment. Dhanulux 2.5 EC 1.68 ltr/ha., Imidaclor 10 WP 1.12 kg/ha and Karathrin 2.5 EC 400ml/ha. may be recommended for growers’ use.

Objectives:

To evaluate new chemical insecticides against jute hairy cater pillar
To recommend jute growers for control of jute hairy cater pillar

Methodology:

Experiments were conducted at Central station, Dhaka and JAES, Manikganj in Randomized plot (3X3m) with 3 replications. After sufficient infestation of hairy caterpillar built up in the field, selected insecticide Dhanulux 2.5 EC @ 1.5ml/L, Imidaclor 10 WP @ 1ml/ , Quinalphos 25% @ 1.5ml/L, Linothrin 10 EC @ 0.5ml/L, MBcyper 10 EC @ 1.7ml/L and Karathrin 2.5 EC @ 0.5ml/L was sprayed along with standard insecticide Cymbush 10 EC.The control plot was remain untreated. Population of caterpillar/plotwas counted before spray and % reduction was recorded after 3 days, and 7 days of treatments.
