Seeds of 10 kenaf 1826, 1827, 1583,1584, 1585, 1586 and 14 mesta germ plasm 1703, 1704, 1705, 1708, 1710, 1717, 1718, 1719, 1721, 1722, 1728, 1729, 1730 collected from the Gene Bank and were sown in pot at central station. In Pakhimara 51 accession of kenaf with two check varieties HC- 2 and HC-95 were screened against spiral borer and mealy bug.  In the pot experiment at greenhouse of central station all accessions of kenaf and mesta were infested by mealy bug whereas all were free spiral borer. In the field of Faridpur and Pakhimara maximum accessions of both kenaf and mesta were free from spiral borer and mealy bug. Only one accession 1583 was not germinated. In Pakhimara 51 accession of kenaf with two check varieties HC- 2 and HC-95 were screened against spiral borer and mealy bug.  In the pot experiment at greenhouse of central station all accessions of kenaf and mesta were infested by mealy bug whereas all were free spiral borer. In the field of Faridpur and Pakhimara maximum accessions of both kenaf and mesta were free from spiral borer and mealy bug.

1. To find out tolerance/resistance germ plasm of kenaf and mesta against spiral borer and mealy bug

2. To help the breeders in evolving high yielding spiral borer and mealy bug tolerance/resistance varieties

The experiment was conducted in the fields of  Faridpur and Pakhimara following RCBD, with three replications. Seeds of 10 kenaf and 14 mesta germ plasm collected from Gene bank and were sown in pot at Central station and in 2m lines at Faridpur and Pakhimara. The recommended package of agronomical practices for cultivation was followed from sowing to harvesting. No plant protection measures were taken with a view to facilitate maximum infestation. Data were recorded regularly during the period of infestation. In another experiment, data were collected from the experimental field of Gene Bank Department at Pakhimara and Kenaf and mesta Department at Faridpur regional station. In Pakhimara 51 accessions of  kenaf  with two check varieties HC-2 and HC-95 were screened against Spiral borer and Mealy bug. In Faridpur 4 advanced line KE, KE-2, KE-3 and PS-1 with one check variety HC-95 were screened.
