Evaluation of Aus Rice - Mungbean Intercropping and Its Contribution to Rice Yield in Aus-t. Aman Cropping Pattern

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Maximization of productivity and economic return is a prime consideration of a pattern as well as improvement of soil health. Inclusion of dual purpose leguminous crop in a pattern through intercropping with Aus rice evaluated to increase productivity and economic benefit in Aus-T. Aman cropping pattern. As a result, all the three intercropping treatments gave similar grain yield in T. Aman. During Aus season, sole rice produced highest yield followed by 2 row rice + 1 mungbean treatment.. The higher grain yield is attributed to higher no. of panicle and field grain. Higher yield of mungbean was from 2 row rice + 1 row mungbean.

Objectives:

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at east byde of BRRI experimental farm to evaluate the agro economic productivity of Rice + Mungbean intercropping and its contribution to rice yield in Aus-T. Aman cropping pattern. The design of the experiment was factorial RCB with three replications. The following treatments were evaluated:T₁ = Two row Aus rice + one row mungbean followed by T. Aman with recommended.T₂ = Three row Aus rice + one row mungbean followed by T. Aman., T₃ = Four row Aus rice + one row mungbean followed by T. Aman, T₄= Sole Aus rice followed by T. Aman.

Achievement/Findings:

Result indicated that all the three intercropping treatments, two row Aus rice + one row mungbean followed by T. Aman with recommended (T₁), three row Aus rice + one row mungbean followed by T. Aman (T₂), Four row Aus rice + one row mungbean followed by T. Aman(T₃) gave similar grain yield in T. Aman. During Aus season, sole rice produced highest yield (2.33 t/ha) and 2 row rice + 1 mungbean gave 2.00 t/ha. The higher grain yield is attributed to higher no. of panicle and field grain. Higher yield of mungbean was from 2 row rice + 1 row mungbean.
