Count Dependent Characteristics of Percentage Mean Deviation in Different Counts of Jute Yarns

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Count dependence of mean deviations was measured by electronic method by using PMD meter attached with a Recycling Device. Percentage of mean deviation of 15 different samples of different count numbers ranging from 135 tex to 366 tex were divided into three groups and PMD versus Count Characteristics were keenly studied. The investigation showed that the variation of yarn mass with the yarn length decreased with the increase of yarn count in tex. So the PMD value is very prominent in fine yarns. The study also proved that the PMD value is slightly dependent upon the humidity. All the measurements were performed at a room temperature of 298⁰ + 2⁰ K and of 65% + 5% RH.

Objectives:

To measure the count dependent characteristics of PMD (Percentage of Mean Deviation) machine.

Methodology:

Yarn samples of different count numbers ranging from 135 to 366 tex were collected from Experimental Jute Mills of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute and measurements were performed for individual samples separately. The PMD meter was switched on 30 minutes before the test were carried out. Then mean current and deviation current were simultaneously noted and successive readings were taken at an interval of 30 seconds. Thus ten readings were taken for each sample and ten PMD values were calculated dividing the deviation current by mean current for each individual pair of readings. Average of ten PMD values for a particular sample gave the PMD of that yarn. In such a way PMD of all the 15 samples of different count numbers were calculated. Then all the reading were tabulated in three different tables and three co-relation curves were drawn. Similar readings were taken for a group of samples with the variation of humidity by using a dehumidifier in a closed room. The result was not shown here because of a very negligible variation of PMD with the variation of humidity was found in the experiment.

Achievement/Findings:

1^st5 samples of count no. 135 to 187 tex showed that the PWD values decreased with increasing count numbers having an abruptly down values of PWD for 187 tex. The same relationship of other set of yarns of five individual samples from 228 to 285 tex given in table-2. This curve showed the similar behavior for two yarn sample of 237 tex. The count dependence relation for last five samples ranging from 295 to 366 tex shows a negligible variation from linearity for two samples of 337 and 351 tex. This might be occurred for any electro-mechanical fault machine or for speed variation of the yarn pulling through the Test Capacitor. Average line were shown in the curves of three individual figures given for three sets of readings. So, it could be concluded that at higher count, the percentage of mean deviation is very minimum and it is very prominent and higher in the lower count of yarns and that is why it is necessary to collect the PWD information for production of finer types of jute yarns which are mainly used for producing jute or jute blended furnishing fabrics for its diversification.
