Collection of Submergence Tolerant Landraces.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Development of rice varieties for the submergence prone areas in the country is necessary to increase the rice yield of the country. This study was conducted with the objective to identify new gene sources of submergence tolerant from the cultivated rice varieties of the submergence prone areas in the country. Exotic varieties were collected through the department of Agricultural extension. The list of 53 land races collected from submergence prone areas. In addition 14 advanced lines collected from gene back for evaluation.

Objectives:

To identify new gene sources of submergence tolerant from the cultivated rice varieties of the submergence prone areas in the country.

Methodology:

A latter was issued to Deputy Director, department of Agricultural Extension to on the availability of rice varieties cultivated in the submergence prone area of the country. Responses were obtained from 10 districts viz. , Jamalpur, Pabna, Barisal, Jhalakati, Satkhira, Rajshahi, Noakhali, Comilla & Laxmipur. According, visit program was scheduled and collection of varieties was done directly from the field.
