Integrated Soil Fertility and Nutrient Management for Sustained Crop Production

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Yield of wheat, jute and T. Aman responded significantly due to different fertilizer treatments. The highest grain yield of wheat 3.79 t/ha was recorded from the treatment T₁₂ which was statistically identical with treatment T₁₁ (3.50 t/ha). On the other hand, treatments T₁₀ (2.66 t/ha) and T₉ (2.59 t/ha) produced statistically identical yield. The lowest grain yield of 0.66 t/ha was recorded in control treatment. The jute fibre yield ranged from 1.01-3.54 t/ha. However, the highest fibre yield of 3.54 t/ha was recorded in treatment T₁₂ (Rec. dose of NPKS for HYG + residual CD) which was statistically identical with treatment T₁₁ (3.19). The grain yield of T. Aman rice ranged from 1.32- 4.03 t/ha. The highest grain yield of 4.03 t/ha was recorded in treatment T₁₁ (N₁₀₀P₂₅K₅₀S₁₀ kg/ha) which was statistically identical with T₁₂ (3.83 t/ha), T₁₀ (3.63 t/ha), T₉ (3.88 t/ha), T₈ (3.38 t/ha) and T₇ (3.58 t/ha) treatments. The lowest yield of 1.32 t/ha was recorded in control.

Objectives:

To overcome exploitation of nutrient resources and maintain long-term soil fertility using Wheat-Jute-T.Aman rice cropping pattern

Methodology:

A long-term field experiment was initiated during 1997-1998 at BINA substation, Tajhat, Rangpur to generate technologies to overcome exploitation of nutrient resources and maintain long-term soil fertility using Wheat-Jute-T.Aman rice cropping pattern. The experiment comprised of 12 treatments viz: (T₁=Control, T₂=N, T₃=NP, T₄=NK, T₅=NPK, T₆=NPK + CD 5 t/ha, T₇=NPKS, T₈=NPKS + CD 5 t/ha, T₉=NPKSZn, T₁₀= NPKSZn + CD 5 t/ha, T₁₁=Soil test base fertilizer dose for high yield goal, T₁₂= Soil test base fertilizer dose for high yield goal + CD 5 t/ha) with three replications.

Achievement/Findings:

Integrated nutrient management with both chemical fertilizers and organic manurers is very effective for sustainable crop production. Inclusion of this valuable source of organic matter for soils made the fertilizer package economically profitable and also helps to improve the soil health.
