Performance Evaluation of T. Aman-based Cropping Pattern Under Upland Condition

Objectives:

To identify the profitable pattern under upland ecosystem

Methodology:

Modified cropping patterns, BRRIdhan31-Barisheem-1, BRRIdhan31-Barisheem-1, BRRI dhan31-Barimotor-1 and BRRI dhan31-Bushbean were evaluated at the east byde of BRRI experimental farm during Rabi 2003-2004 to evaluate and identify profitable cropping pattern(s) for upland ecosystem. Thirty days old seedlings of BRRI dhan31 were transplanted on September 7, 2003 at 20 x 20 cm spacing using two to three seedlings per hill. Seeds of Barisheem-1 and 2 were shown into pits at a distance of 1 m x 1 m apart having 3 to 4 seeds per pit. Seeds of both Barimotor and Bushbean were sown in line at a spacing of 30 cm x 10 cm using seeds of 90 and 60 kg/ha, respectively. All other cultural practices were as per recommendation. Yields of the vegetables were converted in to rice equivalent yield (REY).

Achievement/Findings:

BRRI dhan31 during T. Aman season gave an average yield of 5.26 t/ha. Results also showed that the pattern BRRI dhan31-Barisheem-1 produced significantly higher total REY than patterns BRRI dhan31-Barisheem-1, BRRIdhan31-Barimotor-1 and BRRI dhan31-Bushbean. The higher REY was associated with higher yield of Barisheem.
