Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The tested entries produced significantly different grain yields among the locations and these entries gave higher yields than the standard check varieties in almost all the locations. Location x genotype interaction was significant at 0.05 level for grain yield, growth duration, plant height (cm), panicles/m², filled grains/panicle, 1000-grain weight (g) and sterility%. BR7465-1-4-1 was the highest (4.65 t/ha) among the tested genotypes including check varieties BRRI dhan37 (3.26 t/ha) and BRRI dhan38 (3.42 t/ha). BR7465-1-4-1 yielded the highest (5.67 t/ha) at BRRI H/Q followed by 5.03 t/ha at Satkhira. Among the tested genotypes, BR7878-5* (NIL)-72-HR6 gave the lowest yield (3.81 t/ha), although this yield was also higher than the check varieties. Growth durations of the genotypes were also varied among the locations due to different reasons. The average plant height of the tested genotypes was shorter (109-113 cm) than that of check varieties (about 124 cm). Panicles/m2 varied in different locations and genotypes. Grains/panicle was the highest (153) in BR7875-*5 (NIL)-21-52-HRI followed by BR7465-1-4-1 (136). The sterility% was the lowest (23.40%) in BR7465-1-4-1 and it was the highest (about 50%) in check variety BRRI dhan37 (Table 20). The tested genotype BR7878-5* (NIL)-72-HR6 gave the lowest 1000-grain weight (16.82 g) among the tested entries and check varieties. The 1000-grain weight of another two tested entries (ranged from 18.03 to 18.22) was very similar to that of check variety BRRI dhan38.

Objectives:

To evaluate the yield potential and adaptability of advanced breeding lines at farmers’ field in different agro-ecological conditions.
To get feedback information about the advantages and disadvantages of the advanced lines from farmers and DAE personnel.

Methodology:

Three advanced lines: BR7465-1-4-1, BR7875-*5 (NIL)-52-HR1 and BR7878-5* (NIL)-72-HR6 along with BRRI dhan37 and BRRI dhan38 as checks were tested during T. Aman, 2011. The trials were replicated thrice in each location. The unit plot size for each entry was 16.2 m² (5.4m x 3m). Seeding time was 04 July, 2011 and Seedling ages were varied from 27-35 days among the locations under varied circumstances. Seedlings were transplanted at 20 cm x 15 cm spacing. Fertilizers were applied at 80: 40: 50: 10: 3 kg. N :P₂O₅ : K₂O: S: Zn/ha. All fertilizers except urea were applied as basal and urea was applied in 3 equal splits at 15, 30 and 45 days after transplanting (DAT). Other standard management practices were followed as and when necessary. Appropriate measures were taken to control insect pests. Date of seeding, transplanting, flowering, maturity, plant height, lodging tolerance, pest and disease incidence, yield and yield components were recorded. Feedback from farmers and DAE personnel were also recorded. For yield estimation, 10 m² sample areas from each plot was harvested at maturity and grain yields were adjusted to 14% moisture content.

Achievement/Findings:

BR7465-1-4-1 gave the highest (4.65 t/ha) ranging from 4.26 to 5.67 t/ha in different locations among the tested genotypes including check varieties BRRI dhan37 (3.26 t/ha) and BRRI dhan38 (3.42 t/ha). The 2nd highest yielder BR7875-*5 (NIL)-52-HRI matured in the lowest growth duration (130 days), which was about 15 days eartier than the both check varieties. The highest grain yielder BR7465-1-4-1 matured in 139 days which was also 6-8 days earlier than the check varieties. Based on the growth duration, grain yield and farmers’ opinion, two advanced lines BR7465-1-4-1 and BR7875-*5 (NIL)-52-HRI may be considered for Proposed Variety Trial (PVT).
