The experiment was conducted at Bangladesh Sugarcane Research Institute (BSRI) farm, Ishurdi, Pabna  during 2009-2010 cropping season with the sugarcane varieties Isd 37 and Isd 38. Potato and Mungbean were grown as first and second inter crop respectively. There were twelve treatment combinations in the trial. The experiment was set up in RCB design with three replications. Cane cultivation practices were followed as per recommendation.The data of tiller, millable cane, cane yield, Pol % cane, inter crop yield, equivalent cane yield of inter crops and total adjusted cane yields were recorded. The highest tiller and millable cane were obtained from the treatment V2S1C1 (Variety Isd 38, Spacing 100 cm, and sugarcane leaf clipping). The highest total adjusted cane yield was recorded from the treatment  V1S3C1­­ ((Variety Isd 37, Spacing 120 cm,  Sugarcane leaf clipping)).The treatment combinations of V1S3C1  (Variety Isd 37, Row to Row spacing 120 cm, Potato -  Mungbean with Sugarcane leaf clipping) are better than other treatment combinations.

ii) To observe light interception on growth, yield and quality of 2nd intercrops with   sugarcane. 

iii)  To find out factor affecting growth and yield of sugarcane and intercrop.

 

A field experiment was carried at BSRI farm. I)   Varieties : Isd 37 and Isd 38.  II) Row to row spacing & Treatments:  T0   =  Sugarcane (Row to Row spacing 80cm) + Potato - Mungbean without sugarcane leaf clipping, T1   =  Sugarcane (Row to Row spacing 80cm) + Potato - Mungbean with SLC,   T2    =  Sugarcane (Row to Row  spacing 100 cm) + Potato - Mungbean without SLC,     T3    =   Sugarcane (Row to Row spacing 100 cm) + Potato - Mungbean with SLC,   T4    =   Sugarcane (Row to Row spacing 120 cm) + Potato - Mungbean without SLC,  T5   =   Sugarcane  (Row to Row  spacing 120 cm) + Potato - Mungbean with SLC.  III) Design  : RCBD (2 factorial) IV) Replication: 3

Effects of light interception on sequential inter crop production in sugarcane was investigated that the treatment combinations of V1S3C1  (variety Isd 37, row to row spacing 120 cm, potato -  Mungbean with sugarcane leaf clipping) is better than other treatment combinations.
