Efficacy of Sett Treating Fungicides on Germination, Disease Control and Yield of Cane

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

To evaluate the effectiveness of some sett treating fungicides an experiment was conducted at Bangladesh Sugarcane Research Institute( BSRI ) farm, Ishurdi and RSRS farm, Thakurgaon during the cropping season 2010-11. Sett treating fungicide namely Super Knowin 50 WP, Razim 50 WP, Turbo 50 WP, Suzim 50 WP, Larzim 50 WP, Provex 200 FF, Vita FLO 200 FF were used on germination of setts and Bavistin 50WP was used as standard. Sett dipping in clean water served as control. Among the tested fungicides, no one gave more than 80% efficacy over control. On the other hand, regarding yield, only Suzim 50 WP showed significant difference with control. All the fungicides showed increased yield over control and it ranged from 6.67 to 26.09%.

Objectives:

i) To find out effective fungicides for the control of major sett rot diseases

ii) To keep setts free from the attack of soil borne fungal pathogens and to increase germination of setts

iii) To increase the yield of cane and sugar

Methodology:

An experiment was conducted at Bangladesh Sugarcane Research Institute( BSRI ) farm, Ishurdi and RSRS, Thakurgaon with some sett treating fungicides namely Super Knowin 50 WP, Razim 50 WP, Turbo 50 WP, Suzim 50 WP, Larzim 50 WP, Provex 200 FF, Vita FLO 200 FF on germination of setts. Bavistin 50WP was used as standard. The trial was laid out in RCBD with 3 replications using the variety Isd 32. Two bud setts of sugarcane were treated by dipping in 0.1% solution of the fungicides. The duration of soaking was 30 min. for all fungicides. Sett dipping in clean water served as control. Germination of setts were taken at 45, 60 and 90 days after planting.
