Effects of Fungcide on Stuble Sprouting, Growth and Yield of Cane in Ratoon Crop

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted to observe the effects of fungicide spraying in the ratoon field on germination, growth and yield of sugarcane during the cropping season 2010-2011. Four sugarcane varieties namely Isd 32, Isd 36, Isd 37 and Isd 38 and three treatments (T₀ = Control, T₁ = Bavistin 50 WP @ 2g/L and T₂ = Dithane M 45 @ 4.5g/L) were taken for observation. No consistent and significant difference was found in any treatment among the tested four sugarcane varieties. The highest cane yield was found in all treatment of variety Isd 32 and only in control treatment of variety Isd 37.

Objectives:

i) To determine the effects of fungicide on growth and yield of ratoon crop.

ii) Reducing the yield decline in ratoon cane.

i) To find out the effective fungicides for using in the ratoon crop.

Methodology:

A foundation seed plot of four sugarcane varieties namely Isd 32, Isd 36, Isd 37 and Isd 38 were kept for ratoon and employed for carrying out the present experiment. Four suitable fungicides comprising Mancozeb, Metalaxyl, Carbendazim and Vitavex 200 were taken and sprayed on the stubble. Doses recommended by the respective fungicide companies. Design RCB with 3 treatments (T₀ = Control, T₁ = Bavistin 50 WP @ 2g/L and T₂ = Dithane M 45 @ 4.5g/L) were observed on germination, growth and yield of sugarcane. Necessary intercultural operations were done. Data on germination, tiller, mill able cane, height, girth, yield and po l% were taken.

Achievement/Findings:
