Evaluation of Grasspea Germplasm for High Yielding Variety

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A field experiment was conducted at RPRS, Madaripur during Rabi season of 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 to evaluate the preliminary performance of Grasspea genotypes/lines for seeking of high yielding and disease resistant variety. Six lines viz. SEL-1335, SEL-1337, SEL-1348, Sel-1330, Sel-1336, Sel-1345 and two check varieties of BARIkhesari-1, BARIkhesari-2 were evaluated in the trial. Results revealed that all the characters under study were significantly different among the genotypes. Data on yield and major yield contributing characters were recorded. In 2010-11 highest pods were found in BARI Khesari-2 (1706 kg/ha) followed by Sel-1335 (1489 kg/ha) and the lowest yield was found in Sel 1337 (53.78 kg/ha). In 2011-12 highest pods were found in SEL-1348 (1353 kg/ha) and the lowest yield was obtained from the line SEL-1336 (571 kg/ha). In 2012-13 BARI khesari-2 gave the highest yield (1126 kg/ha) and the lowest yield was obtained from the line SEL-1337 (725 kg/ha). Among the line SEL-1348 and BKX-0002-4 gave the highest yield (966 and 1067 kg ha^-1), respectively.

Objectives:

To evaluate the preliminary performance of Grasspea genotypes/lines for seeking of high yielding and disease resistant variety.

Methodology:

The experiment was carried-out at Regional Pulses Research Station, Madaripur during Rabi season of 2010-11. Six grasspea lines/entries and two check varieties viz. Sel-1335, Sel-1337, Sel-1348, Sel-1330, Sel-1336, Sel-1345 and BARIkhesari-1 & BARIkhesari-2 were evaluated in the study. The experiment was laid-out in randomized complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The unit plot size was 3m X 4m and spacing was 50cm X 10cm. Seeds were sown in the rows carefully by hands at 3cm depth and covered the seeds by soils on 11 November’ 2010, 13 November 2011 and 20 November 2012. All recommended fertilizers were applied as basal dose during final land preparation. The yield contributing characters and other data were recorded from 10 randomly selected plants from each plot every where. Data were analyzed statistically by using MSTAT-C program.

Achievement/Findings:

With the findings of the present study it could be concluded that among the lines the genotype SEL-1348 produced the highest grain yield (1280 kg/ha, 1353 kg/ha, 1080kg/ha) and lowest % mortality (10.33, 10.00, 9.00) and second highest grain yield was produced in SEL-1336 (1307kg/ha, 971kg/ha and 917 kg/ha) . So, the genotype SEL-1348 and SEL-1336 could be considered for regional yield trial (RYT) for releasing as a variety.
