Flower Initiation in Non-flowering Germplasms of Sugarcane

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A trial was set up at farmer’s field in Kalapara (Patuakhali) during 2004-2005 cropping season with 93 non-flowering sugarcane clones. Data on flower initiation was collected. A total of 14 clones flowered at Kalapara (Patuakhali) location. It was observed that close proximity to sea has positive influence on flower initiation in some clones.

Objectives:

Methodology:

A trial was set up at farmer’s field in Kalapara (Patuakhali) during 2004-2005 cropping season with 93 non-flowering sugarcane clones. Data on flower initiation was collected. Each clump was planted one meter by four meter plot. Normal cultural practices were followed. Plants were followed upto flowering stage.
