Efficacy of Sett Treating Fungicides on Germination, Disease Control and Yield of Cane

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

To evaluate the effectiveness of some sett treating fungicides n experiments was conducted at Bangladesh Sugarcane Research Institute( BSRI ) farm, Ishurdi, Pabna during the cropping season 2008-2009. Some sett treating fungicide namely Iprozim 26 WP, Sinozim 50 WP, Orgazim 50 WP and Nayan 50 WP were used on germination setts and Bavistin 50 WP was used as standard. Sett dipping in clean water served as control. Results showed that there is significant difference between control and other tested fungicides. But, there is no significant difference among the tested fungicides although only standard Bavistin 50 WP gave more than 80% efficacy over control. On the other hand, regarding millable cane, yield and pol% in cane, no significant difference was found between control and tested fungicides.

Objectives:

1. To find out the effective fungicides for the control of major soil borne diseases.

2. To keep setts free from the attack of soil borne fungal pathogens and to increase germination of setts.

3. To increase the yield of cane and sugar.

Methodology:

An experiments was conducted at Bangladesh Sugarcane Research Institute( BSRI ) farm, Ishurdi, Pabna with some sett treating fungicides namely Iprozim 26WP, Sinozim 50 WP, Orgazim 50 WP and Nayan 50 WP on germination of setts. Bavistin 50 WP was used as standard. The trail was laid out in RCB design with three replications using the variety Isd 32. Two buds setts of sugarcane were treated by dipping in 0.1% solution of the fungicides except Iprozim 26WPin 0.2%. The duration of soaking was 30 min. for all fungicides. Sett dipping in clean water served as control.

Achievement/Findings:

Effective fungicides will increase germination of sugarcane setts and thereby yield of cane will be increased. Use of recommended dose of chemicals has no such adverse effect on environment. The research results will be utilized by sugarcane growers for their economic benefit.
