Effect of Fungicide and Fungal Antagonist on Germination of Stubble and Yield of Ratoon Cane

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was under taken to find out the effect of fungicide to reducing antagonist on reduction of fungal and termite infestation and also on yield of cane. Two fungicides Bavistin 50WP and Farzim 50WP and one fungal antagonist Trichoderma harzianum were applied on the stubble of cane. In the Bavistin and Farzim treated plots germination of stubble was found to increase by 9.73 and 6.22 percent respectively compared to control. Yield of cane were found to increase in the Bavistin 50WP, Farzim 50WP and Trichoderma harzianum treated plots by 7.84, 6.82 and 2.21 percent respectively over their control plots.

Objectives:

1. To find out the effect of fungicide on germination of stubble and yield of cane

2. To find out the effect of fungicide on control of fungi in the stubble and rhizo sphere soil

3. To find out the effect of fungal antagonist on reduction of fungi and there by reducing the termite infestation

Methodology:

An experiment was conducted at Bangladesh Sugarcane Research Institute( BSRI ) farm, Ishurdi, Pabna during the cropping season 2006-2007. The experiments was laid out RCB design with three replications. Treatments were two fungicides i) Bavistin 50WP, ii) Farzim 50WP and iii) one fungal antagonist Trichoderma harzianum solution Spraying on stubble of cane with irrigation water just after harvesting of cane. A foundation seed plot of Isd 32 kept as ratoon crop. Data on germination and cane yield were taken.
