Efficacy of Combined Application of Fungicides and Insecticides in Controlling Seed Borne Pathogens and Termites Population

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted to identify the efficacy of combined application of fungicides and insecticides against seed borne diseases and termite population in sugarcane field. Results revealed that the percent reduction of termites was highest (100%) in treated sett where only T₇ applied while T₂, T₄ and T₆ effectively reduced termite population in the sugarcane field. In case of soil, percent reduction of termite was found highest (90.76%) in T₆. Same trend were observed in case of T₂ and T₄ applied combinations. At tillering stage percent increased tiller was 45.82 when T₆ was applied. Lowest cane yield 91.29 TCH was obtained in untreated plots. The percent yield increase over control was 40.42% in T₆. The highest Brix percent was found 22.07 in T₂.In case of disease, pathogens like, Rhizopus spp., Aspergillus spp., F. solani, and B. oryzae pathogens were found in most of the samples in control and treated plots. The recorded fungus are not the causal organism of sugar cane crop. It is observed that there is no antagonistic affect of combined application of fungicides and insecticides during seed treatment and whole period sugarcane life cycle.

Objectives:

1. To identify the effect of combine application of fungicide and insecticide against seed borne diseases and termite.

2. To identify the synergistic or antagonistic effect of combined fungicide and insecticide application.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted in a farmer's field at Sreepur, Gazipur during 2002-03 cropping season following RCBD and replicated three times. The variety Misrimala were taken as a planting material. Two eyed setts were prepared and dipped in selected fungicides and insecticides separately and in combined formulations. The experiment was comprised of nine treatment combinations including one control. The treatments were T₀?- Untreated control, T₁-Bavistin 50 WP @ 1 g/ litre water, T₂-Bavistin 50 WP @ 1 g+ Cruiser 70 WS @ 1.0 g/ litre water, T₃-Knowin 50 WP @ 1 g/ litre water, T₄-Knowin 50 WP @ 1 g+ Cruiser 70 WS @ 1.0 g/ litre water, T₅ -Tilt 250 EC @ 2.0 ml/ litre water, T₆ -Tilt 250 EC @ 2.0 ml+ Cruiser 70 WS @ 1.0 g/ litre water,T₇ - Score 250 EC @ 2.0 ml/ litre water and T₈ - Score 250 EC @ 2.0 ml+ Cruiser 70 WS @ 1.0 g/ litre water. Data on germination, seed borne diseases incidence and termite population were recorded at 45 and 75 DAP. Growth and yield parameter of sugarcane were recorded.

Achievement/Findings:

There is no antagonistic affects of combined application of fungicide and insecticide and these are effective on fungus and termite population control. It will be recommended catalyzed, stimulated and finally it could be maintained through researchers, users and extension linkage.
