An experiment was conducted at the Soil Science Field Laboratory of Bangladesh  Agricultural University, Mymensingh during 2001-2002 to study the effect of poultry manure combined with Urea Super Granule (USG) on the yield and nutrient uptake by rice. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. There were sex treatments such as T1= Control (o fertilizer), T2 =USG at 29 kg Nha-1, T3=USG at  29 kg Nga-1 plus poultry manure@ 1.0 tha-1, T4=USG at 58 kg Nha-1, T5= USG at 58 kg Nha-1 plus poultry  manure @ 1.0tha-1, T6=USG at 87kg  Nha-1. Phosphorus @ 15kgha-1, potassium@ 50 kgha-1 and sulphur @ 15 kgha-1 were applied as basal dose to all the experimental plots. Poultry manure @ 1.0 tha-1 was applied before 6 days of transplanting. USG weighing 1g each was placed 5 cm to 8 cm deep at 7 days after transplanting. Grain and straw yield of BRRI dhan30  significantly increased due to different treatments ranging from 46.84% to 102.70% and 48.22% to 87.35%, respectively over the control. The significant treatment difference and the highest grain yield was recorded with the incorporation of poultry manure @ 1.0 tha-1 combined with USG at 58 kg Nha-1 (T5). The NPKS contents of grain and straw as well as total NPKS uptake by the crop increased due to application of USG in combination with poultry manure. A clear indication of the prospect of USG at 58 kg Nha-1 combined with poultry manure was revealed in rice cultivation of Bangladesh.

To find out the effect of poultry manure combined with Urea Super Granule (USG) on the yield and nutrient uptake by rice.

The study was conducted at the Soil Science Field Laboratory of  Bangladesh  Agricultural University, Mymensingh the aman season of 2001-2002. The test crop was BRRI dhan30. There were sex treatments such as T1= Control (o fertilizer), T2 =USG at 29 kg Nha-1, T3=USG at  29 kg Nga-1 plus poultry manure@ 1.0 tha-1, T4=USG at 58 kg Nha-1, T5= USG at 58 kg Nha-1 plus poultry  manure @ 1.0tha-1, T6=USG at 87 kg  Nha-1. The experent was laid out in RCBD with 3 replications. The unit plot size was 7.68 m2 (3.2 x 2.4). The distance between two unit plot size was1.0 m wide around the plot and blocks. TSP, MP and Gypsum were applied following recommended dose of fertilizer to all the experimental plots as basal at the rate of 15kg P, 50 kg K and 15 kg S ha-1. Well decomposed poultry manure @ 1.0 tha-1 (dry basis) was incorporated as per treatments 6 days before transplanting of BRRI dhan30. Urea Super Granule weighing 1 g each was placed 5 cm to 8 cm deep at 7 days after transplanting in the center of four hills in alternate rows @ one granule to maintain 29 kg Nha-1, two granules to maintain 58 kg Nha-1 and three granules to maintain 87 kg Nha-1. The samples were collected and processed and were analyzed for P, K and S as per methods of Hunter (1984). Nitrogen was determined by Kjeldahl method as described by Jackson (1973). Economic analysis and statistical analysis were done as per methods of Gomez and Gomez (1984).

USG at 58 kg Nha-1 with incorporation of poultry manure showed better performance in yield and nutrient than incorporated poultry manure with USSG at 29 kg Nha-1 or other treatment in Aman season. Application of poultry manure @ 1.0 tha-1 will be a better practice for rice cultivation. So, it may be concluded from the study that USG at 58 kg Nha-1 plus incorporation of poultry manure @ 1 t/ha may be recommended for obtaining higher yield and nutrient uptake of Aman rice.
